Deadlines
- A morning newspapers final deadline is 11 p.m.
- Television deadlines are 10:30 a.m., 4:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
- Radio has flexible deadlines throughout the day.
Visuals
- Newspapers are looking for an emotional still photograph that
sums up the story.
- Television is looking for action.
Interviews
- Newspaper reporters might have questions to ask after a meeting
or will call you on the telephone for a comment.
- Television needs to interview you in person whether its
after a meeting or to get new information.
- Radio needs to get a clear voice on tape and may ask to interview
you in person or via telephone.
Beats
- Newspapers generally have reporters who cover specific beats
schools, communities and so on.
- Television has some beat reporters, but most are general assignment
and do not specialize.
- Radio reporters are all general assignment.
Coverage
- Newspapers will cover most stories that have news or feature
appeal.
- Television has a smaller staff; therefore, it is more selective
in its coverage.
- Radio has the smallest staff and covers only major, hard news.
